4.5 starsThank you very much to Macmillan Children's Publishing Group for providing a copy of the novel in exchange for an honest review: sexual assault, rape, homophobia, descriptions of violence, murder, drug use. White Rabbit is going to be the YA thriller of 2018. I'm calling it now. This murder mystery kept me on the very edge of my seat the entire time I read the book, and even up until the very end, I still had no idea who the killer was or how the book would conclude. A thriller in eve [...]

this book contains my single favorite sentence of 2017, “Fox is seventeen, a senior-to-be at Ethan Allen, and an absolute prolapsed rectum of a human being.” a masterpiece(EDIT: look. ok. White Rabbit is too magnificent for my glib-ass non-review reviewing style. but please know that i could not put this book down. i read it in a feverish gulp, thrilled by every page. i would die for rufus holt. that is all)

There should be a word for that feeling you feel when one of your most hyped books delivers on everything you were hoping it would. That feeling is amazing, and I’m so happy to report I’m feeling it right now. LAST SEEN LEAVING is one of my favourite books – I adored Roehrig’s genius blending of a nail biting thriller and the coming of age of a gay teenager. As such, I had incredibly high expectations for Roehrig’s follow up, and he honestly smashed it out of the park. WHITE RABBIT is [...]

A spiritual follow-up to Roehrig's debut mystery LAST SEEN LEAVING, WHITE RABBIT finds its main character - a young, heartbroken, rage-prone gay named Rufus - neck deep in a murder story that's intense and brutal in all the right places. Taking place in a single night following a Fourth of July party, WHITE RABBIT drags its tireless protagonist through one dangerous situation after another, whether its interrogating the spoiled rich kid suspects or worrying about his mother losing their house or [...]

2.5 stars. This was my second most anticipated release of next year (first being THE APOCALYPSE OF ELENA MENDOZA, which I've already read), but unfortunately, it just didn't work for me. One word I have for this book is rushed. This whole book takes place in the span of less than 12 hours, so I found a hard time connecting with the story, or any of the characters for that matter, so therefore, I just didn't care about any of the deaths or the ending. But what I did like was the diversity. This bo [...]

*reads newly unveiled title and description of this book*Okay, so I was expecting something a little more fantasy-oriented based on that title, but for the classic-rock reference and the implicit promise of all the blood and guts, and the fact that it's Caleb Roehrig writing this, I absolutely cannot wait.

You know that feeling when you finally get a chance to read a book you’re highly anticipating? That excitement mixed with nervousness because “oh god what if this book doesn’t live up to my hopes and dreams”? I admit I was a bit nervous to read White Rabbit, but I really had no reason to be.If you’ve read Roehrig’s debut, Last Seen Leaving, then you already know how entertaining, twisty and compelling his mysteries and his characters are. If you haven’t read it, please do so immedi [...]

Certain to be on all those "Best YA Books of 2018" lists, Roehrig's WHITE RABBIT is a book that shocks, stuns, and awes. Unlike many mysteries, the focus of WR is more of a "whodidntdoit" than a "whodunit." Rufus, our main character, is trying to prove that his half-sister did not kill the guy whose dead body she was next to while covered in blood and holding a knife. You know, a typical day in the life of a Roehrig character. Oh, and tagging along for the ride? Rufus' ex-boyfriend, Sebastian. I [...]

You guys, this book had my favorite things and my favorite suspense mystery things and then some: a sarcastic, smart, flawed narrator who's been through hell and keeps going in a self-aware way - check; unreliable, shady, and multidimensional characters up the wazoo, left and right, good side and bad side, shady side and unshady side, and everything in between- check; sizzling chemistry - check; good sleuthing, but imperfect with a side admitting when you've made a terrible choice or not thought [...]

3.5After spending a week figuring out what I really thought about this book, I've come to the conclusion that my feelings are going to remain mixed. White Rabbit is marketed as a young-adult thriller and I read a lot of young-adult novels AND a lot of thrillers but rarely come across a book combining the two. For me, the thriller aspect wasn't the best I've ever read but then I understand this book is still young-adult so the author can't get too dark. However, the young-adult aspect including t [...]

***Thanks to NetGalley for providing me a complimentary copy of WHITE RABBIT in exchange for my honest review.***4.5 STARSWhen Rufus’s half-sister April calls for his help, he doesn’t expect his ex Sebastian to offer a ride. Rufus REALLY doesn’t expect to find April passed out with a knife in her hand, next to her dead boyfriend. She swears she’s innocent and needs Rufus’s help to find the real killer. What could possibly go wrong?WHITE RABBIT by Caleb Roehrig delightfully grabbed me f [...]

This book had so much drama, it felt like watching a season of 90210--the remake bc I never saw the original--all in one go and bruh. Fucking ridiculous. But one hell of a ride! So definitely better than a season of 90210.

Not rating because I DNF'ed it. It had all the makings of a good novel, I like that the protagonist is gay and he's a good character, but I think personally I like adult mystery/psychological thrillers better in general.

THIS BOOK IS SO GREAT IT MAKES ME WANT TO PUNCH THINGS. WITH JOY.Ahhhh Caleb Roehrig has done it again: crafted a wonderfully twisty and tense mystery and filled with with suspense and emotion and action and SUCH PERFECTLY DELIGHTFUL ROMANCE IT WILL MAKE YOUR HEART EXPLODE.I started this book last night thinking I would read just a few chapters before bed and a few hours later looked up from the last page, bleary-eyed and dazed, because I had been so completely drawn into the story I had not eve [...]

Caleb Roehrig’s vivid, mindgame sophomore novel will physically not let you tear your eyes away. Part murder mystery, part romance, from page 1, I was hooked: Rufus’ ex boyfriend Sebastian shows up at party, wanting to talk, just as Rufus’ sister April calls him in errr, distress. She’s maybe killed her boyfriend, but insists that one of her elite popular friends must’ve framed her, and bribes Rufus, giving him one night to help acquit her. Since it’s also Sebastian’s twisted crowd [...]

I really enjoyed this thriller! The romance was sweet, the mystery was suspenseful, and the writing was honestly perfect. The crime was pretty much impossible to solve ahead of the big reveal and that’s pretty tough to find in a thriller.

ARC from Yallfest 2017Having never read Roehrig's debut novel, Last Seen Leaving, I really had no frame of reference going into White Rabbit. The premise seemed both promising and, honestly, very different from what I usually go for. After finishing this fast paced and definitely captivating novel, I am so glad I picked this one up.Pros:- Very, very well written. Roehrig has a way with the words that's for sure. - Great use of flashbacks. Usually you see flashbacks used to further/explain the pl [...]

Thanks to the generosity of Karen M. McManus I had the opportunity to read an ARC of WHITE RABBIT by Caleb Roehrig, and, well, I read it in one day. That's really all you need to know that this YA thriller is successful at drawing you in, keeping you turning pages. This was a satisfying almost old-school mystery, with a shocking set-up with the bloody sister holding the knife, and the protagonist tracking down and talking to suspects, but the menace of the killer lurking in the mist and shadows [...]

Actual rating 4.5 Roehrig’s forthcoming novel White Rabbit once agains blends aspects of a thriller with aspects of a contemporary. This time, unlike in Last Seen Leaving, the thriller aspect wins out. After Rufus gets a mysterious phone call from his half-sister April begging for help, he ends up on about a 12 hour long epic journey to find the person who actually killed April’s boyfriend while framing her. Of course, Rufus’s life has to be further complicated by the fact that his ex-boyf [...]

Caleb Roehrig has written another super smart, super funny, super terrifying YA murder mystery. Here's just a handful of reasons I love this book:1. Ex-boyfriends with chemistry for days have to solve a murder together - yes, please. 2. Filled with gleefully biting depictions of the ludicrously rich. I am still laughing at a metaphor that compared someone's engagement ring diamond to a shrunken head.3. Brilliant structure has the entire book place in the course of a single night. Super fast pace [...]

White Rabbit is another fast-paced, action-packed thriller from the author of Last Seen Leaving. Caleb Roehrig delivers up another satisfying mystery with enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing chapter after chapter. While readers may be attracted to Roehrig's novels for the adrenaline rush, they're likely to stay after becoming invested in his characters. In White Rabbit, the author gives us the type of diverse cast that today's YA readers are looking for in their fiction. The main [...]

Caleb Roehrig has surpassed himself with WHITE RABBIT, a poised and pitch-perfect YA thriller. Fans of his debut novel, LAST SEEN LEAVING, will find in WHITE RABBIT the same enthralling mix of suspense, wry humor, romance and existential yearning that made Roehrig's first book so utterly captivating. *****Who killed Fox Whitney? *I received a digital review copy from NetGalley*White Rabbit was a heart-pounding mystery adventure. Throughout the book you are constantly questioning who committed the crime and what everyone was hiding.
