I wanted to like Simon and Jessica, but the honest truth is that that these two (when paired up) just annoyed the shit out of me.He's angry and she's scared. All. The. Time. And yeah. The point of this volume is that they each overcome some of their demons and learn to rely on each other as partners. Soyay! Mission accomplished. On the upside? Gorgous art & vibrant colors. If you happen to like the storyline and characters, then the visuals are just going to be icing on the cake!Bottom line?I [...]

I want to put a Rage Seed in Earth.”“You wanna knock up the planet? That sounds stupid.”“It is. And a penis-like Hell Tower will burrow down into the Earth’s egg, uh, core where the Seed will be placed.”“Why!?”“Prophecy [...]

Whether you like this will depend on two things.1: Whether you like Jess & Simon.2: Whether you want an easy plot that is quick to get through. I really enjoyed this one, i love Jess & Simon i think they're an adorable team they overcome a lot within this volume, and i would say this does focus more so on the characters, giving them depth than creating this huge technical plot. Hal shows up and essentially forces them to work together, and they gotta go up against the red lanterns who ar [...]

The 2 newest rookie GL's must partner up to protect Earth. The Red Lanterns are trying to fulfill a prophecy called Red Dawn. The story isn't all that great. People across the Earth are being infected with some kind of rage virus. What is good is the characterization and interactions between Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. It's really what makes the book. Simon Basically thinks he can do anything through sheer willpower and he pretty much can. Jessica used to be Power Ring and was controlled by her [...]

This is officially my first Green Lantern book I've read (unless count Omegemen. Which has a Lateran in itd it's very good. Go read it.) Green Lanterns is the story of two characters, very different, who have to work together to take down the RED. The red are basically filled with rage and want to make everyone in the world fill up withyou guessed itRAGEEEEEEE! Jessica has been a Lantern before, and it seemed she fucked up (again haven't read any other titleis is probably not the best idea) and [...]

The story of Jessica Cruz, the newest recruit to the Green Lantern Corps, elevates an otherwise inconsistent first volume for Green Lanterns. Sam Humphries ensures that his first story at DC Comics is an enjoyable one, but Rage Planet ultimately feels like the writer is still settling in.Admittedly, one of my biggest gripes with the book isn't necessarily his fault. The last time we saw the Red Lanterns was in Charles Soule's fantastic run, which has been retconned completely ignored for Rebirth [...]

I really loved this because I'm a fan of both Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. Their personalities are so different, so it's interesting to see them overcome these differences. Also, they are flawed as Lanterns, so their struggles against their flaws are compelling to read. In particular, Jessica's battle against anxiety attacks makes her a very different kind of superhero. The conflict between her fear and the willpower it takes for her to even go out the door is powerful. As an added bonus, Bleeze' [...]

I received this from Edelweiss and DC Comics in exchange for an honest review. Pretty good story showing the development of the two newest Green Lanterns from Earth, Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. I'm interested to see what happens with this new rogue guardian and his special ring, as well as the planted rage seed, so I'll keep reading.

I dig this one. I trust they'll develop the characters more down the line, but it's a good start.

I missed when Jess and Simon both became the current Green Lanterns of Earth, or why exactly Hal is off in deep space. I assume that will be explored more thoroughly in his book. I guess how much you like this book will depend on how much you like Jess and Simon, and I liked Jess rather more than Simon. It's not that I don't like him, it's just that he's more or less interchangeable with any number of impulsive young mean I've encountered in fiction, and it's only the exact details of his dramat [...]

The Green Lantern line expanded to an almost ungainly level at certain points of the New 52, with 4 or 5 books running at once. Rebirth strips that back to just two; Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps, which focuses on the Corps at large (and is excellent), and Green Lanterns, a more Earth-centric book that focuses on the two newest Green Lanterns of Earth, Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. Both had a lot of groundwork laid in the New 52, but were never really explored as characters. Writer Sam Hum [...]

Read as single issue comics. Probably more like a three and a half stars but I'll just go with four. Better than decent, but more for the interaction between the two Green Lanterns and less for the over reaching plot dealing with Red Lanterns. I've been able to enjoy this one a lot despite Jessica's endless anxiety I think a lot of it has to do with these characters not really having a lot of pre-existing history too. I think most people could follow the story without having read any other Green [...]

Why the hell do we have to have two lanterns now? :/So, there's something coming right? can't remember the name.LOL how many times can you say "Red dawn" in a minute :DOkay, still want to know what this will bring though ;)

Beware the RED DAWN!!! Green Lanterns is the first series entry from former Marvel scribe Sam Humphries. He is not alone in this quest for Humphries is join by artists Ethan Van Sciver & Ed Benes. Two celebrated comic book artist. So needless to say the book looks fantastic. Green Lanterns is more of an introduction to the newest green lanterns of Earth Simon Baz and former Power Ring, jessica Cruz. Sam Humphries gets to cut loose and have some fun with this series. He begins Jessica and Sim [...]

5 🌟Nice to see Jessica and Simon in action as Green Lanterns. Glad the rings picked them. The rage lantern group was very scary. Wonder when the seed will take over the Earth. Happy that Simon and Jessica's first mission as Green Lanterns went okay. Rami seems interesting. Can't wait to read Green Lanterns, volume 2: The Phantom Lantern!!!!

I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest reviewThis Review was originally published on my blog @ SwissbookwormA few years back, I watched the Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds and honestly, I thought it was really bad. I thought the idea was kind of cool, but the implementation didn’t do it justice. Since then, I never picked up a Green Lantern comic, either because I didn’t feel like reading it or because I’ve only heard negative criticism. Probably because [...]

Green Lanterns, when written by Geoff Johns back in the day, was one of my favourite series coming out of DC. Well, everything he touches turns to gold, but I was quite interested in his two newest characters; Simon Baz, a Muslim Lebanese-American man who suffers racial discrimination since the 9/11 attacks, and Jessica Cruz, a Hispanic-American who suffers from mental illness. It was a moment of clarity when I read about these two people, as I felt connected to comic characters in a way I never [...]

I'm relatively new to the Green Lanterns and their goings on but like what I have read so far. This new volume 1 is no exception. It starts out with basic background on what Lanterns are and who the current four Earth Lanterns are. While at the same time introducing us to the two newest recruits, Simon and Jessica, who are the main characters of this volume. The villains are the Red Lanterns and Simon and Jessica are on their own in stopping them taking over the inhabitants of Earth with rage. R [...]

I don't understand the books that are written by young guys, that have dialogue that seems like it is from the 90s. Usually, the newer writers hold back on the over explaining within the narration. this book is the complete opposite. Over and over again, Cruz and Baz are telling us what their personalities are like, instead of showing us. They are saying how dangerous and scary the rage virus that the Red Lanterns are spreading is, without us actually seeing much of it. This book is all tell and [...]

My favorite Rebirth series, barely beating Superman, mainly because of the characters, Jessica Cruz is the newest Lantern, and yet she's already my favorite (sorry Kyle), also, as someone with anxiety issues like Jessica, I love how Humphries is writing her struggle, I have never root for a character that much to win their fight. Sure, the plot is not that fancy or anything, but it really doesn't need to.

    22. Emmanuel Nevers on said:

I love this book! I think the new green lanterns are awesome as well as interesting. I like how they are as characters and feel like their own instead of just lame Hal jordan knock offs. This series is amazing! Highly recommended!

One of my favourite new superhero books - mainly due to one of the main characters, Jessica Cruz, who deals with depression and anxiety as a hero who has been chosen because of her potential for great willpower.

So despite my trepidation about how adding Watchmen characters to the DC universe was hardly the best way to row back from the ghastly New 52 reboot, I heard enough good things about Rebirth to dip a toe in the water. I tried the characters I love (Superman, The Hellblazer), and I tried the writers who, if not my absolute favourites, have done work elsewhere which I really enjoyed. First, Priest on Deathstroke, and then Humphries on this. Humphries' particular gift is for stories about broken me [...]

Another entry into the 'Is This A Necessary Rebirth Title?'By about half-way I could say that yeahwe kind of do need these Lanterns, and so does Earth. Sam and Jess are the latest Lanterns protecting Earth while Hal goes off doing 'Hal' type things with Sinestro. Forced to work together by Hal, Sam and Jess must overcome their dislike of each other to protect the planet from the Red Lanterns. This is by far the most in-depth character piece of Rebirth that I've read so far. Both Jess and Simon ha [...]

Once again I'm left wishing permitted 1/2 star ratings. This is a perfect 3.5 stars book. There is a lot to like here but there are a few nagging issues that drag the book down and keep it from earning that fourth full star. Ah well. Still, this is a very enjoyable starting point for our two newest Lanterns and it seems like the foundation has been laid for a very interesting series going forward.

First things first I am a huge fan of Green Lantern. This book fell somewhere in the middle for me. Not bad not great either And now I'm kind of conflicted whether I should buy Vol.2.I liked the new Green Lanterns, their vulnerability and the story was quite good. I guess it just wasn't my thing.

    28. Nikki on said:

I so wish had half stars, because this is a 3.5 for me. The whole Red Lantern plot is a bit whatever, and there's a bit of re-capping at the start of each issue, but it does a brilliant job of establishing the characters. I really love these guys, especially Jessica Cruz! I'm definitely going to pick up the next one, which has more positive reviews :)

I wish we could have gotten more about both of these GL's backstories. I remember Jessica from the Justice League titles where she was wearing the Earth 2 Fear ring, thankfully, but I don't know what she means by her friends getting murdered. And Simon I have never read before. Story line is OK.
