This is another gorgeous collection from Wave Books. Kocot's poems are precise and lyrical despite the entire collection being composed of one-word lined poems. I say "despite" because achieving this kind of vertical lyricism seems like magic, a very distinct and intentional kind of diction and craft. I'm so taken with the book and with the form Kocot uses because it not only constricts how the reader experiences the poems, it reteaches the reader how to read, how to arrive at each word as a sep [...]

The undergrad dude in me wants to mock the one-word lines as a lazy tool to turn 42 short poems to 120 pages. But 42 poems is a book, and I'm down with the rhythm. Kocot divorces the poet from the need to assign each word weight or influence, democratizing "A", "The", "Strabismus" and "Collision's" alike, to disorienting effect. It's a natural endpoint to the poetry move to capitalize each line regardless of syntax. Faves: "Record Keeper", "(_____)", "Sunstorm", "Cruelty" and "Addict".
