"Set in the birthplace of the John Birch Society during the turbulent years of the early 1960’s, The Stone House Legacy, reveals mankind’s stubborn inclination to repeat the mistakes of past generations." The blurb only instigated the zeal in me to read this book immediately, then and there. The Stone House Legacy would be succeeding in stirring emotions and curiosity towards the Civil Right Moments. I was not aware of the incidences before reading it but narrated in a fictional setting, it h [...]

The Stone House Legacy by Wanda DeHaven Pyle is an evocative look at the early days of the Civil Rights movement through a fictional narrative sure to stir emotions. Each reader will react differently to the characters based on personal reminisces of these tumultuous times. The anchor for this fictional narrative is not a person, but a stone house in Indiana. A hundred years prior to the events of the narrative a diary was written, the contents of which mirror in some respects the feelings of Tes [...]

This is not a piece of fluff to mindlessly lose yourself in. It is full of real history woven into a story that takes place in one of the more turbulent times in modern American history when the Civil Rights movement was breaking out, and protests and riots were part of the scene. Pyle did a masterful job of portraying the sincere optimism, and the dark hypocrisy of the times; the hope and commitment for change on one side and the desperate desire to prevent that change on the other. Having lived through these turbulent times myself, made this an interesting read. It's a well-woven story pitting idealism against politicism, greed, and more. Each character has his unique reasons and beliefs driving their actions. The reader is made aware once again of how history repeats itself over and over, what motivates and drives individual thinking, and how emotional rather than objective so many decisions and actions really are. I was disappointed that Simon was the pastor of the city' [...]

The Stone House Legacy by Wanda DeHaven Pyle is the story of Cora, Tessa and a stone house. In 1866 Cora moved with her husband to begin a new life and establish a settlement. This was at the end of the Civil War. The settlement did not last long-drought, illness and fire played a major role in the disbanding. A large stone house had been built in the settlement and it was the one thing still standing when Cora left. Forward to 1966-Tessa and her husband visit what remains of the settlement to b [...]

Thoughtful storyThis book took me back to my early teens in the sixties. The story also brought back memories of a time rife with strife. That being said, Wanda managed to weave a story rich in history and characters deep in personality. Some parts seemed to move a little slowly, but overall this work is well edited and flowed at a good pace. The ending was perfect for the story. Good job.
