A teenage girl living with a witch focused on world domination who adopted her when she was a baby? A teenager girl who, by the way, wants nothing to do with spells, magic and other witchery things imposed by her adopted parent?Well that’s a first. Camellia had enough judgement to see that what Sarmine wanted was absolutely wrong and immoral. I mean, thank god. In order to be able to dominate the world, Sarmine summoned an elemental (demon) but the latter escaped from her clutches; he had s hi [...]

3.5 stars but rounding it up because of the socks.^^ A delightful, quirky little book that reaches out to younger readers (and those young at heart, ahem!). In a charming, humorous voice, 15 year old Camellia or Cam tells the reader the woes of living with a super demanding witch while taking care of a dragon at her basement, trying to learn spells to save mankind (I didn’t know figuring out spells was a lot more difficult than solving algebraic equations!)“If it is a Monday, use 1 oz of #12 [...]

I was charmed by the cover and by the title of this book, and was captivated by my sister AJ's review as well but I'm sad to say that I was a bit disappointed. Not that I didn't like this bookI sure did 'cause it was a quick and enjoyable read, and there were some twists in the story that I didn't see coming. But I thought the plot wasn't totally great and I feel like something were missing, particularly at the it was a little out of the meadow(like it shouldn't have yet endedunless ther [...]

It is so much fun to see an author you already love in a genre switch it up and write in a new genre and do just as well in it.Connolly has created something quirky, fun, and completely entertaining in her new novel Seriously Wicked. I think I had a smile on my face the whole way through as we are introduced to Camellia and her crazy world full of magic, mayhem, and mischief.Dragons, demons, werewolves, oh my! I think this fun read had a little bit of it all. Danger, romance, and a setting that [...]

3.5 of 5 stars at The BiblioSanctum bibliosanctum/2015/05/30/yI really enjoyed Seriously Wicked, though feel I should also preface my review with the note that I’m probably not the intended demographic for this book. Young Adult and Teen Fiction is a genre I dip into quite frequently, but I was initially thrown off a bit by this novel’s tone and writing style which felt skewed even younger, maybe preteen (back in Grade Five and Six, we were already reading books about high schoolers, so it [...]

3.5 starsAlthough it falls somewhere on the line between middle grade and young adult fiction, Seriously Wicked is a very entertaining book for readers of all ages. In it, author Tina Connolly – known first and foremost for her Ironskin trilogy – allowed her imagination and her considerable sense of humor to run wild. The end result is a book that, despite being somewhat naïve and predictable, makes us laugh at every turn.Camellia is a very reluctant witch’s apprentice, a fifteen-year-old [...]

Forget about the vulnerable and righteous heroine of the stage musical Wicked. Think back to your childhood and the malevolent women of The Wizard of Oz, Disney’s Snow White, Baba Yaga, or Hansel and Gretel. Yes, that kind of witch. Now imagine she’s your adoptive mom. That’s the situation of Camellia “Cam” Hendrix, a 15-year-old high-school sophomore, in Tina Connolly’s Seriously Wicked.Connolly has updated Anna Elizabeth Bennett’s Little Witch into a delightful tale for teen audi [...]

This review will also be posted on both of my blogs:fafasbookcorner.wordpress/fafasbookcorner/Beware spoilers ahead!Let me start by saying that I really missed reading a hard copy versus and E-ARC. You can imagine my joy when I started reading this one (I bought it)! I'm going to be honest and say that I thought this would be a 3 star. Usually books that are light, fluffy and funny are 3 stars. But I was wrong. Considering the size of this book (it's really small) I was surprised that the author [...]

Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this novel. I had high hopes for this Middle-Grade magic filled read, but the writing style was not up to par. I've read other books with similar themes that I enjoyed more.

Seriously Wicked was a light, and quirky young adult book. It wasn't quite five star material but I also can't say anything bad about it because I really enjoyed it a lot.Although initially the main character Camellia "Cam" is not a witch (or so she thinks), this book reminded me about how much I love reading about witches. And the fact that is was written in such a fun way made it all the more appealing to me. I really liked Cam. Unlike most YA female characters I have read about, she wasn't wh [...]

3.5/Mon avis en FrançaisMy English reviewI had a great time with Tina Connolly and her adult fantasy books and it’s true that when I saw that she was trying a new genre, which is more young adult, and featuring witches I couldn’t help but be intrigued again. It must be said that witches are always an intriguing theme and I was curious to see how the author would stage them here.Camellia is a girl who lives with her witch « aunt ». But now, this woman is not really her aunt and our heroine [...]

This review and many more can be found on my blog: Feed Your Fiction AddictionThis book is just plain cute. It’s one of those books that’s perfect for the younger YA set (I don’t think there are enough of those) but has enough appeal for older YA readers as well. The magic in this book is pure fun—it never takes itself too seriously—and it makes me glad I don’t have to go grocery shopping for potion supplies. If you’re looking for a lighter YA read with a paranormal twist, this is [...]

This was very entertaining. I liked the main character and how tries to stand for good and stay clear of witchcraft. But I also like that by the end of the story, she comes into her own and understands that she can be a good witch too. A very enjoyable read.

This review was originally posted on Latte Nights Rreviews Review Seriously Wicked is a very fun and light read—it is very enjoyable.I was drawn in by the cover and the title. Those two aspects made me want to read the book. While the first 50 pages were slow and kind of dragging, it picked up speed right after that and I was drawn by the story itself. Camellia is a funny character, even sarcastic at times. She lives with her adoptive mom, who turns out to be a witch and she believes Camellia [...]

**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: bookbriefs** Seriously Wicked is a young adult paranormal book that is full of spells and witchy fun. It is a on the younger end of young adult, but I think it will appeal to fans of all ages looking for a quick and light read that is all kinds of fun. Cam is not a witch, but she is raised by one. And not the nicest of witches either, she has Cam working as her personal assistant basically- always making her run crazy errands and and fulfi [...]

was ok, some brilliant pieces but some so really boring and cliche parts, but the dragon, the dragon was brilliant, there were only like 2 paragraphs of it, that made me give the book 3 instead of 2, beautiful. the witch was ok too and the best friend, actually everyone around other than the main character i really liked! the main character not so much, she had some ok parts, but not many. a 4 star story lost in a 2 star, is what i felt.

*I received an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.Seriously Wicked was a fun, odd book. The story was pretty light. The heroine tried to stop a witch from taking over the city and prevent a cute guy from becoming corrupted by the demon inside him, all the while trying to decipher a spell and figure out Algebra. While I wasn't that impressed with this story--it didn't stand out--there were some decent parts. I liked how the MC had to balance so many things. I liked her bit of cha [...]

This book had me from the first lines:"I was mucking out the dragon's garage when the witch's text popped up on my phone. BRING ME A BIRD."Connolly has written a YA book that is genuinely funny, witty, and bright. She captures teenage angst without making it annoying. Cam is easy to relate to. She's being raised by a witch but she doesn't want to have anything to do with magic, except for the chore she loves: tending to the dragon in the garage. When the new boy in the neighborhood ends up posse [...]

Seriously fun. Both the tone and the main character reminded me a lot of Diana Wynne Jones's novels. They seem light and a romp to read yet touch on serious issues. I found this highly entertaining with enough depth to anchor it. Cam reminded me of Sophie in Howl's Moving Castle. And the imaginative touches were delightful--especially the puzzling spells.

This charming YA fantasy isn't deep--and yet by the end, I felt really connected with the characters (and my inner awkward teenager). It's a fun, fast read.

Three stars: A quick, fun, cute and quirky, witchy read.Camellia isn't your average teenager. Her life is far more complicated. She lives with her adoptive aunt, who just so happens to be a wicked witch. Cam spends her days running errands and doing chores for the witch, while balancing school. Cam is horrified that her aunt's latest diabolical scheme involves summoning a demon in order to help her take over the world. Cam is determined to stop her. When I first saw the cover and read the synopsis for the book, I knew that what I'd be getting was something quick and fun. And it was, but more than that it was ridiculous. Something that is funny and light-hearted should still have some depth, and maybe even an intricate plot. Seriously Wicked had neither. Almost nothing in the novel was portrayed in a realistic manner, and it was hard to get invested in the story. Before reading, I was excited to know that there would be some otherworldly cre [...]

Like the cover of this book suggests, Seriously Wicked was colourful and fun. The synopsis really summarises the story perfectly. The modernized take on magic was fantastic. I was thoroughly entertained!Cam is your typical teenager with one big exception: she lives with a witch named Sarmine. Sarmine is training Cam to become a witch but there's just one teensy problem with that - Cam doesn't want to be a witch at all. She does everything in her power to sabotage the witch's plans but when one s [...]

*4.5 stars*This book was SO much fun! It was the perfect blend of zany, sparky humor and deep-felt emotion - exactly my favorite kind of thing to read. Teenaged Cam has the worst mother issues ever, because she lives with a wicked witch who's constantly out for world domination and has a nasty habit of casting unpleasant spells on Cam whenever she doesn't do what she's told (and the occult supplies she has to gather can be really gross). Of course, she also keeps on giving Cam self-defense spell [...]
