Figments, by versatile author Julie Elizabeth Powell, is a wonderful collection of short stories, poetry and prose. I really enjoyed the short story, “Danny’s Magic Potion”, with its supernatural elements. “Sanitcore Ockle” is full of dark humour and I loved the ideas found in “The Pandora Dress”. For me, the scariest story in the collection was “The Box That Jane Built” - I had to finish this, although my eyes needed matchsticks to hold them open!“Figments” also contains s [...]

I'm a fan of Julie Elizabeth Powell, one thing I know when I pick up one of her books is that I am going to enjoy it. That's rare with a writer, and I'm so happy to have discovered her. Like looking through a family album. Yes, someone in your family who perhaps you haven't visited with in a while. Julie's book is like dropping by for tea. And the book is like the family album she lays neatly in your lap. You sit there, sipping tea and gently lifting the pages looking at all the images that seem sooo familiar. Like it's your life, but a weirdly twisted version. Beautifully written and a joy to read.
