I finished Cold Water yesterday, in less than a day. Given that today was the start of my preliminary exams, shouldn't I have been studying yesterday? Oh no, I was reading this book instead! In truth, I think this book deserves a 3.75-star rating. Okay I know that's a weird rating but hear me out. I found it hard to connect with the main character, Hope, at first. Being sarcastic, cynical and pessimistic is not my thing, though I understand the need to create a character like that. I couldn't und [...]

Wow. If you go by just the first three chapters, Cold Water seems mediocre, but once you get past the drag, it quickly becomes gripping. As a male reader who rarely reads outside the realms of science, even I found a huge well of empathy for most prominent characters.I particularly enjoyed the clear thought behind the supporting cast, specifically how the vast majority of them had this personality emerging from their words and actions, resulting in a rich-feeling story with few flat characters. [...]

For the first quarter of this book I thought maybe that the lead character was in a coma and just dreaming because the writing was a little disjointed and hazy. There even was a dream sequence that I thought might have been a hint of what was really happening. But then about half way through I realized that the story was about a girl who runs away from home and away from her three oppressive sisters. Sixteen-year-old Hope Weller runs until she passes out under a big maple tree. She wakes up to a [...]

When I first started reading this book, it didn't grab me. I kept at it though because I paid for it and I really wanted to give it a chance. I'm not sure when it happened, but there was a point in the book where I stopped forcing myself to read it and just started to enjoy it. It wasn't the best read of my life and it certainly wasn't the worst. I think what I liked most about it was watching the main character develop and the way the author chose to end this book. It was quite interesting to s [...]

I enjoyed this book. It was somewhat slow but still kept me interested. The ending felt a little sad to me, even though it wasn't a terrible ending but I still felt kind of sad after I finished it.

Let's take another trip down memory lane with Cold Water by Annmarie McQueen!Eighth grade me read the beginning on Worthy of Publishing (a website like Wattpadd) and loved it. I'll admit it; I was jealous and still occasionally stalk the author's twitter feed/blog. Because clearly, I need a life.Cold Water is a little gem, though, so you can't blame me for wanting more. It has a premise a lot of teens could dig: Angsty Hope Winters, in an attempt to run away from her demanding sisters, passes ou [...]

This was a nice YA contemporary romance. I thought the story was interesting, with Hope running away from home and being taken in by the boy who found her and his mother. Ash and Hope's relationship is great because they spend most of their time antagonizing one another and you can see how they grow closer over time. It is a bit slow-paced at times, but the story has some nice twists to keep you wondering what will happen. If you like drama and teenage relationships, I think you'll like this one [...]

a nice book with a sweet ending.e fact that the author is still trying to establish herself gets concealed as the writing is nearly flawless. a good attempt and a light read with a good reflection on life.

Never finished it. Got too bored. My reading time is limited these days and I want to read books that make me feel like I'm there. This one didn't do that.

I did not finish reading this book because I found it hard to get into. I am sure it is a good book - it *sounds* good - but I did not want to drag myself through it.

I won't say it was bad but it isn't the best book I've ever read. I found it really hard to stay focused on.

The ending redeemed the rest and the one twist was unexpected but not developed enough. Mostly sad and depressing.

Lost my patience waiting for answers. A bit too slow and boring for my taste.
